Eligibility criteria
The eligibility criteria for CTET are as follows:
For classes I to V:
Candidates should have passed senior secondary or its equivalent with at least 50% marks and should have completed or be pursuing a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education.
For classes VI to VIII:
Candidates should have a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with at least 50% marks and should have completed or be pursuing a two-year Diploma in Elementary Education or a four-year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed) or a two-year Diploma in Education (Special Education).
Exam pattern
The CTET exam consists of two papers: Paper I and Paper II. Paper I is for candidates who wish to teach classes I to V, and Paper II is for those who wish to teach classes VI to VIII. The exam is conducted in offline mode, and the duration of each paper is 2.5 hours.
Paper I consists of five sections:
Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, Mathematics, and Environmental Studies. Each section carries 30 marks, and the total marks for the paper are 150.
Paper II also consists of five sections:
Child Development and Pedagogy, Language I, Language II, Mathematics and Science, and Social Studies/Social Science. Each section carries 30 marks, and the total marks for the paper are 150.
The exam is objective in nature, with each question carrying one mark. There is no negative marking for wrong answers. To qualify for CTET, candidates must secure at least 60% marks in the exam.
