• Nelson Mandela was a great freedom-fighter, who struggled for the freedom of his South African people. 

• In this extract of his autobiography, he takes the readers back to May 10, 1994. when he was sworn in as the first black president of democratic South Africa.

• A huge gathering of international leaders had assembled in Pretoria to mark the end of White supremacy and to felicitate this great leader.

• The inauguration ceremony took place in a big sandstone amphitheatre in Pretoria.

• He remembers how apartheid was created against the Blacks.  

• It was the most inhuman system built by the white people. The black people were denied even their basic freedom.

• However, in the last decade of the century, all this was overturned and the South Africans enjoyed equal rights and freedom irrespective of colour and skin.

Nelson Mandela gives a message of peace and unity of mankind. He foresees a new regime which will be based on the equality of men and women. He hopes that in the new regime there will be no exploitation of man by man. There will be no room for racism and segregation in the new order.
